Imphal, September 05 2024:
As a part of its sustained movement for enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in the ST category, the Meitei/Meetei Tribe Union (MMTU) has decided to launch a nationwide campaign at Delhi soon.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, MMTU secretary Mutum Churamani said that a team of 10 would be leaving for Delhi between September 12 and September 15 .
In the course of the Nationwide campaign, the MMTU team would meet several distinguished personalities, religious leaders and politicians and seek their support to the popular demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list.
The team would also inform the leaders and distinguished personalities about the current highly insecure position of Meiteis and the grim future the community has been staring at, Churamani said.
The impacts of enlisting illegal immigrants in the ST list, voters' list and the sustained war being waged against the Meiteis would be highlighted across the Nation.
Even though the movement for inclusion of Meitei in the ST list has completed 12 years, the Government of India has been paying little attention to the issue, he said.
In order to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, it is crucial to secure the future of the Meitei/Meetei community by way of enlisting the community in the ST category, he asserted.
He also sought suggestions and support from the public towards the union's campaign for ST status.
