'GoI should crackdown on narco-terrorists'

Imphal, January 05 2025: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that the strife in Manipur will never end as long as the Government of India continues to take the side of Chin Kuki narco terrorists.

Addressing a press briefing at Lamphelpat today, COCOMI co-ordinator Th Somorendro said that the people of Manipur started to put some faith on the Central security forces after CRPF and BSF occupied the bunkers of Chin Kuki narco terrorists at Uyokching on December 28 following days of assault on Meetei villages.

Saying that the Government, however, hasn't taken any action against the Kuki miscreants who protested against the deployment of Central security forces in a violent manner by even attacking Kangpokpi DC and SP offices, he added that the Kuki miscreants were protesting at the behest of Chin Kuki narco terrorists.

Reminding that the Kangpokpi SP was also injured in the attack by Kuki mob, he asked why the Government has not booked any of the protesters.

Further stating that the attack on Kangpokpi SP and DC office was done after minute planning, Somorendro asked whether law and order is not applicable in the hill districts.

The Government of India treating people of hill and valley districts differently by enforcing force only in valley districts is not only disappointing but also unacceptable, he said.

Further stating that the Government also hasn't taken any action against those who have been blocking National Highways whenever they want, he urged the Government to let the rule of law prevail and never allow the Chin Kuki narco terrorists to block the National Highways ever again.

He appealed to all communities which have been coexisting before the merger of Manipur with India to take a collective pledge to push for implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur and to safeguard forests by abolishing poppy cultivation.

The unrest will persist if the people are not united, he said.

Saying that elected representatives seem to be taking the interest of their respective parties more seriously than the interest of the people amid the crisis and the same is unfortunate, Somorendro appealed to all MLAs to refrain from engaging in blame games.

COCOMI media coordinator Y Surjitkumar, on the other hand, said that there is ample evidence of involvement of armed Kuki militants in attacking Kangpokpi SP and DC offices but the Government hasn't taken any action against them.

Recounting that one teenager was shot dead at Salungpham by security personnel on December 14 while six others were arrested from the same place on the same day, he asked whether there are different laws for hill and valley districts.

Whatever that has been happening in Manipur since May last year is the outcome of the proxy war of India, he said.
