Three injured in another confrontation over land

Three persons suffered bullet injuries in a violent confrontation that broke out between two neigh-bouring villages at Singda area under Gamnom Sapermeina police station at around 10 pm yesterday.
Singda Ireng villagers said that at around 6 pm, Singda Kuki villagers dismantled a newly constructed house of one Malangmei John claiming that the land on which the house has been built belongs to them.
Peeved with the action of Singda Kuki villagers, a large number of irate Singda Ireng villagers went to Singda Kuki village to resolve the matter at around 10 pm, they said.
However, some Singda Kuki villagers opened fire injuring three of them, the Ireng villagers alleged.

The injured youths have been identified as Malangmei Moses (28) s/o LN Sarat, Ireng village secretary Malangmei Happyson (18) s/o Adona and Wisdom (22) s/o Mogenbo.
All of them were immediately evacuated to hospital.
However the condition of Happyson is stated to be critical.
On the other hand, Singda Kuki villagers said that they have been requesting the villagers of Singda Ireng not to construct houses on their land.
They have also lodged a complaint regarding the matter at the concerned police station, they said.
Despite their repeated requests, a house of a Singda Ireng villager was constructed on the land of Singda Kuki and the same would be inaugurated today.
As such, they dismantled the house to prevent inauguration last night, Singda Kuki villagers said.
Later in the night at around 10 pm, a large number of Singda Ireng villagers armed with sticks, axe, iron rods and other weapons stormed Singda Kuki village and started dismantling houses igniting a violent confrontation between the villagers of two neighbouring villages, they alleged.
In the melee, they heard some sounds of firing, Singda Kuki villagers said and added that they did not know from which side the bullets were fired.
Ireng villagers gave away the land to Singda Kuki villagers for settlement long time back with the knowledge of other nearby villages.
However, Ireng villagers started constructing houses on the said land without paying any heed to their request, they said.
Meanwhile, Senapati district police prevented villagers of both the villages from staging protest in view of the prevailing tense situation today.
Large number of police personnel are deployed at the area from last night itself.
Senapati Additional SP and Kangpokpi SDPO inspected both the villages today.
Village chief and elders conducted an emergency meeting to resolve the issue today.
