Imphal, September 01 2021:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has taken strong exception to the alleged misconduct surrounding admission to Class XI in various Government Higher Secondary Schools in Greater Imphal.
KSA in a statement, noted that the admission process for Class XI in Government Higher Secondary has witnessed some irregularities lately with some people at official positions using DO letters to seek seats to school authorities at a time when students from across the State are struggling to get admission.
With cent percent of the Class X students who applied for HSLC Examination 2021 been given promotion after the proposed examination was cancelled due to Covid pandemic, the State is facing an exceptional situation due to lack of proper policy to either distribute students to the Government Higher Secondary Schools or to augment infrastructure and manpower of schools outside Greater Imphal to lessen the pressure on the few eminent schools in Imphal, it said.
But instead of concentrating on how to handle the situation, some persons in official positions are meddling in the admission process to ensure their near and close ones get admission to these already overwhelmed schools in Imphal, said KSA with regret.
Moreover, there had been huge outrage with schools issuing cut-off marks for admission to Class XI in various streams leaving many aspiring candidates struggling and in despair, noted KSA while stating that imposition of unwanted pressure on school authorities by some persons at such a juncture is unfortunate.
Nonetheless, the State Government has recently issued notification regarding upgradation of nine High Schools across the State to the level of Higher Secondary Schools, but the Government has failed to raise awareness on this development and to attract students to these schools, it said.
Misuse of official positions should be stopped immediately and the authorities concerned should chalk out a proper policy to ensure students seeking admission to Government Higher Secondary Schools pursue their desired line of study or stream, said KSA.
KSA further reiterated its appeal to stop giving undue pressure to school authorities while urging the school authorities to make sure that the ongoing admission process is fair and transparent.
