Imphal, August 31: The All Political Parties Forum has hailed the decision of the Naga Youth Front to suspend the blockade on the highway from the morning of August 29 which had caused untold hardship to the people.

In a statement, the forum reminded the NYF and other Naga organizations that the anti ceasefire extension agitation was aimed against the Government of India and no particular community or communities were targeted.

No communal clash or even a minor scuffle occurred during the more than one month long agitation, said the statement.

The Forum urged the Naga organizations to agitate against the Government of India and not against the people of Manipur.

The Forum also appealed to all not to spread unfounded rumors.

The erasing of the word Manipur and inserting the word Southern Nagaland on sign boards, hoardings and name plates in some of the hill districts do not augur well for inter-community relationship, said the Forum adding that the deafening silence maintained by the PR regime over the issue is condemnable.

A meeting of the Forum was also held today at 3.30 pm.

Meanwhile a public meeting held at Jiribam sub-Divisional HQtrs.

today discussed the implications of the pulling down of goods on NH-53 even after the NYF had suspended the economic blockade from the morning of August 29.Leaders of various communities including Nagas leaders attended the meeting held at the AMSU Jiribam district committee office.

The meeting unanimously agreed that such acts of pulling down goods will send the wrong signal and can lead to greater misunderstanding amongst the various communities.

They decided to appeal to all concerned not to pull down the goods and allow free movement of people and goods vehicles.

The leaders also decided to visit the places along with Naga leaders to work out an understanding with the people responsible for pulling down the goods within September 4, reports said.

Reports reaching here said that some persons yesterday pulled down some goods from buses at Kaiphundai.

The AMSU Jiribam district committee has in the meantime appealed to the UCM to send its representatives to the meeting scheduled to be held at the Jiribam Town Hall on September 5 at 1 pm for the protection and development of NH-53.
