Ibobi confident of enhanced productivity

Chief Minister O Ibobi has exuded confidence that Manipur's productivity particularly textiles and fabrics would get a major boost and it would be soon comparable with other States.
Ibobi made this statement after inaugurating a Powerloom and Allied Service Centre at the Industrial Estate, Takyelpat today.
The inaugural function held under the aegis of the Directorate of Commerce and Industries was presided by Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam while Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai was seated on the dais as guest of honour.
Ibobi stated that introduction of modern technology would enhance productivity of five persons to the quantity produced by 100 persons earlier.
If the State's products should be made comparable with products of other States, they must be of impressive designs and of fine quality.
The Government should give incentives for encouraging weavers and enhanced productivity.
Noting that Manipur occupied third position in the whole country in terms of handloom productivity, Ibobi exuded confidence that Manipur can climb to the top spot if necessary inputs are provided.
Educated youngsters can make themselves self-employed by joining training programmes on weaving.
Ibobi also stated that it was being considered to provide subsidy at the time of purchasing weaving tools and machinery.
He hailed Commerce and Industries Department for opening a new chapter by introducing powerloom in the State.
Govindas while noting that fabrics produced by powerlooms can never replace handloom products.
But powerlooms can certainly produce much higher quantities of fabric which would create room for self-employment of many unemployed youngsters.
Saying that 133 people are being given training on weaving at the Weavers' Service Centre, Porompat, Govindas stated that they would be sent to West Bengal and Assam for exposure.
Efforts are also on provide to provide a loom set, incentives and marketing assistance to all the people who have successfully completed training courses.
The Government has already taken up health insurance scheme, life insurance and credit facilities for weavers.
