People from all walks of life in Manipur today offered floral tribute and homage to Haipou Jadonang who was hung to death by the British on this day in 1931 on alleged charge of waging war against British empire on the occasion of his 77th anniversary of martyrdom which was observed in different parts of the State.
After paying floral tribute and homage at his memorial located at Keishampat here by the people, the main observance function was organised under the aegis of Haipou Jadonang Statue and Park Development Committee, Manipur at Gandhi Memorial Hall here.
The function was attended by IFC Minister N Biren as chief guest, PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken Singh as president and Chairman of Manipur State Pollution Control Board E Dwijamani Singh, Chairman of Hill Area Committee Khangthuanang Panmei, social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima and leaders of various organisations as guests of honour.

The function commenced with shouting of customary 'Hoi' by the representatives of the organising committee.
It was followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by the chief guest and presentation of a song eulogising Haipou Jadonang by the choir group of Majorkhul Mathenmei.
All those who spoke during the observance recalled how Jadonang, a village youth who was born in 1905 at Puilon, more popularly known as Khambiran, located along Imphal-Cachar Road rose to the occasion and took up the cudgel of fighting for the cause of independence of Manipur and how he fell into the hands of British.
In his address as chief guest of the function, IFC Minister Biren exhorted the younger generation to learn to appreciate the contribution of their forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of safeguarding the independence of Manipur and follow the path shown by them.
While pointing out that the evil of the divide and rule policy perpetrated by the British Government is still present amongst our midst today, the Minister observed that in such a situation, mutual co-operation and understanding among the people is essential.
Only then there can be peace and development in the State, he added.
Cautioning the people against pseudo politicians and civil organisations who speak and instigate disintegration of Manipur at public platform, the Minister said such politicians and self styled public leaders should be condemned by the people.
Speaking as one of the guests of honour of the function, Chairman of Manipur State Pollution Control Board E Dwijamani observed that peace and unity can be brought in the State only if people come together and understand the nature of the problems being faced in the State over the last few decades.
In continuation of the observance function, choir group of Keishamthong Tumei Raphom presented patriotic songs.
On the other hand, at Phoichingtong Community Hall, the 77th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed under the aegis of Zeliangrong Arts and Cultural Organisation, Manipur.
The event was attended by Agriculture Minister N Loken as chief guest, president of All Zeliangrong Arts and Cultural Organisation Poudongai Kamson as functional president and elder of Phoichingtong village Namthanga Gangmei as guest of honour.
Paying of rich floral tributes and homage to the photograph of the martyred leader by the people was the main highlight of the function.
Zeliangrong Welfare Committee, Manipur University also observed the 77th anniversary of martyrdom of Haipou Jadonang during a commemorative function held at the Senate Hall of Manipur University today, The function was attended by MLA of Khurai A/C Dr N Bijoy as chief guest, Director of Transport Norbert Disinang as president and Registrar of MU Prof N Lokendra as resource person.
People paid homage to Jadonang along with offering floral tributes at the occasion.
The devotees of TRC observed two minutes silence as mark of respect and paid rich floral tribute to Haipou Jadonang on his 77th death anniversary during a commemorative function held at Tingkao Ragwang Kalum Kai, Chingmeirong today morning with D Kalaona, D Kathuna and R Magu as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
At the occasion, Lanbilung Golmei delivered a speech remembering Jadonang, his life history, his contribution and sacrifice to the people as a social and religious reformer.
The Haipou Jadonang Memorial Committee, Khoupum, Nungba Sub-Division also reportedly observed the 77th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Khoupum.
At Zeliangrong House, Tamenglong headquarters, the observance function was organised by Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) with Dichamang Pamei as chief guest.
At the occasion, Project Officer of DRDA KP Kamiuthuan who spoke on the political vision and approach of Haipou Jadonang dwelling at length on Haipou Jadonang's religious aspect and efforts for unification and integration of Zeliangrong people.
Our Jiribam correspondent adds: The 77th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was observed at Lungreizang village, Jiribam.
Organised under the aegis of Zeliangrong Students' Union, Barak Valley, offering of floral tributes and presentation of folk songs and traditional dances marked the observance function.
