Imphal, October 28 2026:
The Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) has undertaken repair work on the road stretch from Lamphel Fishery Department gate to Tarung Neikanlong, also known as ICAR Road.
The road had reportedly remained in a dilapidated condition for a long time without any repair work being undertaken despite a work order being issued to Venture Company some months back.
TAKDO started the repair work today using heavy machinery, with support from clubs, organisations and people of Thangmeiband, as the poor condition of the road had been causing considerable inconvenience to commuters and local residents.
Many residents of Thangmeiband have lauded TAKDO for taking the initiative to repair the dilapidated road.
Speaking to the media in this regard, Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan said that he would request the Chief Minister to cancel the work order awarded to Venture Company for repairing the road.
He also assured that he would extend all possible assistance to TAKDO in repairing the road stretch and sought assistance from the Government as well.
The MLA further stated that the company's claim that the road repair work could not be undertaken due to the non-receipt of forest clearance is baseless.
TAKDO president Khullem Nobo said that the road stretch, which starts from the Lamphel Fishery Department gate, that passes through Tarung Neikanlong and leads to Iroishemba has not been repaired for a long time.
The road stretch is part of the Imphal Ring Road project, he said.
He said that the Government had issued a work order to Venture Company for repairing the road about four-five months back, but no initiative had been taken to carry out the work.
He added that they had approached Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and the company concerned, requesting them to repair the road.
However, as no action was taken, TAKDO decided to undertake the repair work using its own funds and with the support of local clubs, organisations and residents, Nobo said.
Saying that they had waited for a long time for the company to repair the road, he added that TAKDO decided to take up the repair work in view of the inconvenience caused to the public by dust and the risk of accidents.
He also said that the road is riddled with potholes and becomes muddy whenever there is rain.
He further stated that several vehicular accidents had occurred along the road, prompting TAKDO to undertake the repair work without waiting any longer for the company to act.
