Imphal, October 28 2014: To tackle fuel scarcity in the State against the backdrop of the 1000-hour bandh in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, the State Govt has taken up necessary steps to ensure availability of fuel to the public as usual.

As such, two oil pumps in Imphal�Krishna Premi Oil City and PCTC, would cater 24x7 service from tomorrow, as per a Govt order.

At the same time, authorities concerned have been ordered to take action against black marketers to prevent hoarding of essential commodities including petroleum products.

CAF&PD Minister Moirangthem Okendro today convened a review meeting at his office with IOC officials and Oil Pump owners.

Informing that there are adequate stocks of fuel in IOC depot, Moirangthem Okendro while speaking to media persons after the meeting, urged all concerned not to panic or resort to panic buying.

He said hoarding of petroleum products is an offence.

Saying that making essential commodities available to the public is the responsibility of the Government, Okendro said essential commodities would be shipped in by providing dedicated escorts if required.

In case anybody comes across any hoarders, the same may be informed to the department authority through helpline No 18003453821.Informants would be rewarded.

The Chief Minister has also urged the Union Home Ministry to ensure that the 1000 hour bandh in Karbi Anglong region does not affect transportation of essential commodities for the State, Okendro conveyed.

During the meeting at the Minister's chamber, the IOC officials reportedly informed that there are adequate stocks of fuel in the depot.

Many tankers have left the State along with CRPF escort to ship in fuel from Khatkhati.

Retail outlet/pump owners expressed concern that panic buying has become the trend of the day whenever there is news about blockade doing the round.

Although they could not ensure complete sale of fuel on normal days, the stock usually run out within a short time whenever there is news about blockade.

The Minister urged the IOC officials to supply the required fuel while appealing the pump owners to discharge duty sincerely in the interest of the public.

Meanwhile, Dy Secretary (CAF&PD), Ranjan Yumnam through an order informed District Magistrates and law enforcing agencies to take necessary stringent actions to prevent hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities including petroleum and petroleum products and book offenders under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980 .
