Imphal, April 28 2009: Looking forward to the proposed visit of the Chancellor of Manipur University, the students' union of the university is all set to take up matters related to infrastructural requirements and other problems besetting smooth functioning of the university with the Chancellor.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at his office room at Students' Home of the University today, the newly elected president of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) Philem Ibosana informed that all these problems would be brought to the notice of the Chancellor Prof PN Srivastava during his proposed short visit to the university.

It may be noted here that Manipur University was granted the status of a Central University in 2006 .

Ibosana complained that books that have been purchased recently during the book fair have not yet been made available to the students.

The Wi-Fi Internet facilities installed inside the university campus at an estimated cost of Rs 29 lakhs is so slow that networking is s not possible inside the A Block and the Ladies' Hostel, he said, adding that the website of the university has also been not updated.

At a time when the results of the class X and XII examinations can be accessed on internet, the university has not been able to upload the results of the graduate examination in its own website, Ibosana lamented.

The monetary amount of scholarships or fellowships entitled to the students are also not being able to provide in time and its take a long time for the students to get their due scholarship/fellowship amount.

Besides imposing certain restrictions, the identity cards of the students are being checked at the time entering the A-Block.

But there is no such restrictions for the contractors, he noted.

The construction works being taken up in the university also lack quality as the authorities of the construction works appointed contractors of their choice only, he alleged, adding that the most glaring example of such financial mismanagement in the university is the suspension of the finance officer.

While appealing to the MU authorities to respect the MoU signed with MUSU at the time of appointing teachers, Ibosana asserted that some of the faculty members appointed are not qualified.
