Thoubal, February 27 2023:
Disgruntled residents have imposed an indefinite blockade along the Inter Village Road (IVR) traversing through Thoubal Khunou village under Wangkhem Assembly Constituency of Thoubal district from today onwards.
Reportedly, the villagers resorted to this step after their repeated pleas to the relevant authorities to renovate the aforementioned IVR continued to fall on deaf ears.
Speaking in this connection, Rita Taiyenjam, president Thoubal Khunou Meira Paibi stated that the village consists of over 200 households belonging to the Scheduled Caste community.
She shared that the IVR in question was renovated 7/8 years ago and since then no repair work has been done on the road.

"Due to the location of the TMC's Composting & Segregation Shed in the village, many garbage-laden heavy load vehicles from different parts of Thoubal district ply through this road, leading to the worsening of the road condition", she claimed.
She asserted that during the inauguration of the Composting & Segregation Shed on October 14 of last year, the villagers had received assurance from the MAHUD Minister regarding renovation of the road.
"Despite that assurance, no tangible steps have been taken up to alleviate our woes", she lamented.
"As such, the villagers have resolved to impose an indefinite blockade along the IVR and stop any departmental vehicles from entering the village", she said.
She further appealed to the authorities concerned to renovate the road in the interest of the villagers.
