Training on Anti Human Trafficking and child protection systems held

FXB India Suraksha in association with Assam Rifles organized a two day training program on Anti Human Trafficking and Child Protection Systems for the Border guarding officials at Battalion Headquarter, Moreh, Manipur on 24th and 25th June, 2019 .
The two day training programme was part of the 15 days training of the officials on Border guarding role.
81 Assam Rifles officials including 5 Senior Commissioned officers from across the Assam Rifles Battalion in Manipur participated during the programme.
The main objective of the programme was to train the officials of the Paramilitary force on strengthening vigilance as well as intervention mechanisms on combating human trafficking in Manipur.
This was the 2nd batch undergoing such kind of training.
Another similar training for Border Management Cadre was organized on 2nd and 3rd May, 2019 wherein over 90 officials participated during the programme.
Fondly called 'Friends of the North East People', the Assam Rifles is entrusted with the role of guarding and protecting citizens living in remote areas and especially borders.
Realizing the importance of the issue of Human Trafficking and child protection in such a vulnerable state due its geo-political, tribal unrest and sharing border to Myanmar, a trained force on handling cases of trafficking and child protection was need of the hour.
Satya Prakash, Programme Manager, FXBIS Sunil Meitei, Project Officer (Imphal), Project Mukti, FXBIS Wungreiso A.Sangh (Ukhrul) Project Officer, Project Mukti, FXBIS were the resource persons for the two day training programme.
A Pre-Test and Post_test was also done to assess the knowledge of the officials on human trafficking and child protection mechanisms.
During the two day programme, the officials were trained on the concepts of human trafficking and its difference from Migration and Smuggling of Migrants.
The officials were explained about the modus operandi of traffickers and how the grave issue is a organized crime with the presence of multiple persons in the entire process.
The officials were explained about the vulnerability of the Manipur state and the role Assam Rifles has to play in combating the third largest crime in the world.
Identification of victims and the procedures for handling cases were taught to the participants.
"Victim centric approach is mandatory while handling cases of human trafficking," Mr.Satya Prakash said.
Adding to it he said that no one stakeholder can work to break the chain of trafficking, collaboration and coordination between stakeholders is the biggest mantra.
Different Section of the Indian Penal Code, Acts such as Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Immoral Traffick Prevention Act, 1986 etc were also discussed.
To make the training interesting and impactful a group work was also conducted with the participants where they were asked about the process-flow while handling cases of human trafficking.Various suggestions and recommendations were received during the session.
Some of the officials present there were also involved during the rescue of the rescent 179 Nepalese citizens from Moreh and Imphal and hence many examples could be drawn from that intervention.
Mr.Sumit Sood, Commandant, 43rd Battalion, Assam Rifles addressing the participants appreciated FXBIS' efforts in conducting the two day training programme and said, "The subject of the training is very important for us as Assam Rifles officials and we should be very clear about the interventions to be done while handling such cases.
We look forward for collaborating with FXBIS in conducting such training programmes in future too" .
The programme was conducted as part of project Mukti-an Anti Trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur implemented with the support of ECPAT Luxembourg since 2015 in Imphal and Ukhrul.
