Harbour no misgivings: UCM on ILPS campaign

Kukis actively took part in various issues of the State, United Committee Manipur (UCM) said.

In a statement, IPR secretary of UCM, Leisemba Lamabam said that the unfortunate incident at Moreh on Aug 18 was avoidable.

The incident broke out due to lack of understanding that the ongoing ILPS movement is not only for a particular community; and ILPS will be beneficial for both the hills and valley.

People of Chandel district and Manipur will be the beneficiaries of ILPS if imple- mented.

Tribal brethren should harbour no misgivings about it.

However, the UCM feels that the ugly Moreh incident was a fallout of false indoctrination against a particular tribal community by some individuals with vested interest.

It was a backfire of misleading, hurtful, communal and untenable utterances against a particular community made by some individuals with vested interest.

It is desirable that concerned individuals/organi- sations refrain from making statements that could hurt the sentiments of a particular community through the media.

On account of the mistrust and prevailing tension, the incident that was highly provocative broke out, much to the displeasure of all the people, the UCM said.

It also appealed to all concerned to refrain from making comments that could incite communal passion and which are highly provocative and offensive on social networking spaces.

The UCM will face such comments seriously.

To clear all doubts and mistrust on the ongoing ILPS movement and to ensure its success, the JCILPS, which is spearheaded the movement, may arrange a joint sitting of all stake holders on a right forum so that no room is left for those who are hellbent to disintegrate the State.

The UCM also said that the Moreh incident might have been avoided had the Central and State security forces deployed there took prompt preventive measures.

The State Govt should take pro-active measures to prevent recurrence of such incident in future.

The State Govt should also compensate the loss and damages caused in the incident at the earliest, the UCM demanded.

The United Committee Manipur (UCM) condemned the killing of Walunglow of Aimol Ngairong by suspected NSCN-IM cadres.

It is very unfortunate that the man was reportedly killed for opposing the attempt to assimilate Aimol tribe into the Naga fold, the UCM said.

If it is true that Walunglow was killed for the reason stated, then UCM presumes that the NSCN-IM is making another attempt to start communal clash similar to that of the 90s.The UCM will face any attempt of forced assimilation on smaller tribes by bigger communities.

Equal respect should be shown to all communities irrespective of their population size and they should be allowed to protect their identities, UCM said.

The Committee will extend all possible help to every community in their efforts to protect their identity.

The UCM also shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family.
