CCpur, April 22 2021:
A woman health worker who was on her way to administer COVID-19 vaccines at PHC Saikot was attacked by bandh supporters at Phougakchao, reports our correspondent.
Sources said the female healthcare worker identified as Rosy Themboi Haokip, who was travelling from Imphal on a private car along the Imphal-Churachandpur road managed to negotiate their way through many points where bandh volunteers blocked the road.
She was permitted free passage by bandh supporters till Kwakta, from Keinou, when she identified herself as Covishield vaccinator on duty.
"The bandh supporters at Khudekpi even issued me a vehicle pass for my free passage," she is quoted as saying.
However the bandh supporters at Phougakchao, Bishnupur district stopped her from proceeding further despite having shown her ID card, the pass issued by their counterparts at Khudekpi and telling them that she was on COVID-19 vaccination duty.
The private car they were travelling, bearing registration no MN01K 9669 also suffered substantial damage.
The department concerned, with the help of KSO Churachandpur and KKL later manage to reach the CMO office, Churachandpur.
The CMO Churachandpur later today issued a condemnation saying the act of hooliganism on a healthcare worker - physically attacking them and damaging their vehicle, has never been noticed in the past.
It appealed one and all not to repeat such uncivilised act in future particularly on the medical staff who are on duty during this time of medical exigencies.
The Medical Officer In-charge of PHC Saikot, Dr Jemes K Touthang also filed an FIR at the Churachandpur PS .
