RPF dubs polls proxy exercise

Imphal, January 19, 2012: Categorically stating that the periodical elections being held under the Constitution of India are for electing agents of New Delhi for ruling the land on their behalf, the proscribed RPF has questioned what can the people expect from their representatives.

A statement issued by the outfit's publicity secretary T Leishemba asserted that the most these representatives can do after being elected is turn against their own people and plead for huge amounts of money from New Delhi in the name of countering insurgency movement, only to swindle the same amount and amass wealth and properties for themselves and their close relatives.

Further, questioning what these leaders have done for the welfare of the people, the outfit alleged that the representatives being elected by the people are not for governing the public but to act as proxies of New Delhi and help keep the people of Manipur under the alien rule.

The untold misery and repression suffered by the people of Manipur since the ancient kingdom was brought under the Indian Union are all living examples of the real essence and purpose of the periodic elections being held in Manipur.

No politician would ever dare to scrap draconian laws like AFSPA because they know very well that any initiative aimed at bringing collective welfare and security of the people would mean sacrificing their seats of power.

They could simply look on when many people were massacred and a number of women raped because their political posts are more dear to them than the lives and dignity of people.

Well educated people who have clear understanding of the real purpose and meaning of the Indian elections have no interest in these events.

However, many people who do not have thorough understanding of the same misleading elections and who are easily influenced by other people have been dedicating all their time to these elections just to get some personal benefits.

But all and one must understand that the draconian laws and Acts being imposed in Manipur were implemented with the consent of these elected MLAs and Ministers.

"To install a Government of our own by electing our representatives through adult franchise, our people should be first freed from the alien rule".

"The present crucial situation demands all sections of the society to pool in their knowledge and resources to chart out a route which would be shortest in restoring Manipur's sovereignty", the outfit asserted.

It further appealed to all the people who are uncannily enthusiastic of the elections to come back to the 'right path'.
