Imphal, February 18 2025: Dr Thokchom Meinya, former three time Member of Parliament, has urged the BJP Central leadership to address the political crisis in Manipur by appointing a new Chief Minister.

Addressing the 7th foundation day of the old age home at Langjing Achouba as chief guest today, the ex-MP continued that the political turmoil besetting Manipur and the subsequent imposition of President's Rule in Manipur have made the people even more anxious.

He appealed to the BJP leadership to appoint a new Chief Minister to resolve the political crisis and work towards restoring normalcy in the State.

Claiming that imposition of PR and placing the State Assembly under suspended animation may potentially be a long-term arrangement as offices of the Governor and his Advisors have been set up at the Secretariat, Dr Meinya maintained that the BJP's indecision on the next Chief Minister is concerning.

Saying that imposition of PR in Manipur is not a positive development, he maintained that having an elected Government in place is crucial to resolve the crisis plaguing Manipur since May 3, 2023 .

Public frustration is wearing thin and there may be a mass movement if the BJP leadership fails to reinstate the State Government by swearing in a new Chief Minister, Dr Meinya added.

He, meanwhile, said that the Government must not treat the Meetei village volunteers as outlaws as they emerged due to the failure of the Central and the State security forces to protect the lives and properties of the people.

Chief advisor of the old age home RK Maipaksana, former Chairperson of Manipur State Social Welfare Board Dr RK Nayansana Devi and president of the old age home Dr Mayengbam Kamala Devi also attended the programme among others.

Simple gifts were presented to the inmates of the home as part of the celebration.
