Imphal, June 12 2024:
Following the killing of Soibam Saratkumar Singh on June 6 and widespread burning of houses and several State institutions in Jiribam, the World Meitei Organisation (WMO) has expressed discontent over the failure of both the Central and State Government to resolve the conflict.
Recalling Home Minister Amit Shah's statement asserting that the incidents happening in Manipur are not acts of "terrorism", WMO brought the focus on trouble-torn Jiribam district and expressed grief over the Home Minister's statement.
It added that the aforementioned statement points at the existence of a hidden agenda, said a statement issued by Pibarel Mangang, media coordinator, WMO.
WMO also questioned how the 40,000 strong security force is incapable of safeguarding a small district such as Jiribam.
Instead of deploying adequate forces to quell the violence and safeguard the population, the State Government is engrossed in shifting the same affected people to relief camps, WMO maintained.
Stating that Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Ministers and MLAs were busy attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing in ceremony in the midst of such a volatile situation, WMO maintained that the public would be pleased if the State legislators resign from their offices on moral grounds.
Thus, WMO urged the double-engine Government at the Centre and State to work out an amicable solution to the Manipur conflict before a civil war erupts.
