CM Biren presides meeting of ruling MLAs

A meeting of the ruling MLAs was held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in anticipation of a no-confidence motion, ahead of the 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The Assembly session is scheduled to commence on February 10 and will run until February 24 .
Discussions at the meeting reportedly centred around strategies to defeat the anticipated no-confidence motion.
The meeting began at around 11.30 am and continued till around 1 pm.
The meeting was presided by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, CAF&PD Minister L Susindro, Social Welfare Minister H Dingo, Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar, Power Minister Th Biswajit, Transport Minister Khasim Vashum, Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee Dipu Gangmei (Nungba MLA), Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Kumbi MLA S Premchandra, Wabagai MLA Dr U Deben, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, Patsoi MLA S Kunjakeswor and some other MLAs including JD(U)'s Md Abdul Nasir were also present at the meeting.
However, Yumnam Khemchand despite being a Cabinet Minister was not present at the meeting.
NPP had announced that its MLAs will sit in the Opposition bench in the Assembly session.
Notably, Abdul Nassir of JD(U) is currently facing a disqualification case under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution at the Speaker Tribunal.
The judgment of the case has been reserved by the Speaker during a hearing today.
It is also reported that the meeting discussed resolving misunderstandings among the ruling Ministers and MLAs to iron out internal conflicts and present a united front during the Assembly session.
Apart from other issues, the meeting also held discussions on the Budget for 2025-2026 which will be tabled in the Assembly session.
