Imphal, August 07 2009: Asserting that imposition of curfew cannot subdue the people's movement, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi before the people's fury ravages the whole State.

A press release issued by the UCM observed that O Ibobi paid little attention when the issue broke out first.

Rather than tackling the issue as a leader of the people, he went on to say that "there is no other option than to kill" as if he was the one who can order killings.

The practice of declaring holidays when there were students' movement and imposition of curfew if it was people's movement and suspension of seven commando personnel when he could not contain the people's movement, will not succeed in suppressing the people's movement, the UCM said.

Referring to the Chief Minister's statement that the report he gave on the floor of the House about the Khwairamband Market shooting was based on the report furnished by a commando SI, the UCM remarked that the Chief Minister who is also in charge of Home Department should have told the facts to avoid such questions like who is superior, the SI or the Chief Minister.

Nobody, even small kids, would not believe the Chief Minister's statement, "We have been appealing to UG groups to join National mainstream".

Although Sanjit was an ex-cadre of the PLA, he had retired from the party and was living a normal and settled life, the UCM observed while questioning why an ex-UG cadre who had joined the mainstream was killed in contradiction to the CM's statement.

Under such circumstances, would any UG cadre or their parents put faith in the Government's commitment, the UCM asked.

The Government's attitude rather amounts to encouraging the UG cadres to remain underground forever, it noted.

The people's question as to why Rabina and her unborn child were killed for connection to which party is rational enough.

After the Tehelka has published a detail report on the Khwairamband Market firing with photographic evidence, there is no need for any enquiry.

The commandos shown in the photographs should be confirmed from the duty roaster of the Police and imprisoned immediately.

Reminding that three convicted accused of the August 2003 serial blast at Mumbai have been hanged to death yesterday, the UCM asserted all those found guilty should be punished according to their crimes.

"Or whether the Indian laws are not applicable in Manipur?", the UCM asked.

For all these failures, Chief Minister O Ibobi should resign.

If he refuses, the Government of India should pull him down, the UCM reiterated.

It further reminded that copies of a memorandum containing three demands have been submitted to the Prime Minister, the UPA Chairperson, the Union Home Minister and the Governor of Manipur.

The case of L Satish of Singjamei, has living evidence, more convincing than photographs in the person of Pebam Gunindro who survived the fake encounter which claimed Satish.

Reminding that Pebam Gunindro has already testified that Satish was killed in a fake encounter, the UCM asked as to why the Government froze the case.

The UCM also cited the cases of Dr Kishan, Token and Rajen and Y Krishnadas apparently referring to the Government's failure or reluctance to bring the cases to their logical ends.

It further called upon the people to fight against the States excesses without retracing a single step.
