Bid to control Dengue outbreak

Health and IPR Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh has said that all possible measures have been taken up by the Health Department to control Dengue in the state.
Speaking to media persons at his Lamphel Sanakeithel residence today, Dr S Ranjan said that surveillance teams have been sent to the affected areas and awareness measures have also been taken up.
Fogging is going on, he added.
Dengue is a viral disease caused mainly by the bite of a mosquito named Aedes.
There are a total of 358 Dengue cases for the current year in the State as on November 3 .
"We should not keep stagnant water in our surroundings.
Containers containing water should not be kept exposed and they should be fully covered since mosquitoes use such water as breeding sites", the Health Minister said.
"The Aedes are day biter starting from dawn to dusk.
We should use mosquito nets while sleeping.
It will be fruitless if the public is not made aware of the issue", Minister added.
He said that the press conference is conducted with the objective to create awareness on the status of Dengue cases in the State.
Dr S Ranjan said that media plays a big role in creating awareness among the public.
State Mission Director, NHM Dr Somorjit Ningombam, Additional Director, Deputy Directors, State Malaria Officer, officials of NHM and Health Department and others were also present at the press meet.
