Imphal, November 02 2024: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, other Ministers, MLAs and various civil society organi-sations have greeted the people, especially married womenfolk on Ningol Chakkouba.

'Ningol Chakkouba' is observed on the second day of the New Moon of the Manipuri month of Hiyangei and on this day, the married sisters are invited by the brothers to a feast at their parental homes and given 'Dhakshina'.

This festival strengthens the bond of love and affection between brothers and sisters, said Gover- nor Lakshman Prasad Acharya in his message to the people.

The role of the festival significantly stands out as it helps in keeping the social fabric intact.

It is a very positive development that other communities also have appreciated the ethos of this festival and have taken to celebrating this festival with fervour.

"Let us all celebrate the festival in its true spirit," said the Governor.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh greeted the people and said the Ningol Chakkouba is one of the biggest festivals of Manipur and it celebrates the unbreakable bond of love between brothers and sisters.

"It reinforces parental care and affection for married daughters...Let Ningol Chakkouba motivate us to strive for togetherness.

On this auspicious occasion, let us also reaffirm to rekindle the flame of unity and oneness amongst all communities in the State," N Biren said in his message to the people.

State Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, Rural Development Minister Yumnam Khemchand and MLA K Robindro Singh too greeted the people on the occasion.

Various organisations including All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Kabui Union Manipur, Ethno Heritage Council, Pangal Students' organisation (PSO), Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) and others too greeted the people and prayed for the festival to bring peace, unity and prosperity.

AMUCO in its message to the people sought blessings for all the Ningols (women) of the indigenous communities.

When celebrating the festival, it urged all to remember people in relief camps in their prayers.
