CorCom boycotts PM's visit

Imphal, January 02 2022: The Coordinating Committee (CorCom) has called a State-wide shutdown on January 4, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the State.

As per a statement issued by CorCom media co-ordinator M Sak-hen, the shutdown will be effective from 1 am till the Prime Minister leaves the State.

Medical, emergency, water services and rituals will be exempted from the purview of the shutdown.

Claiming that the proposed visit of the Prime Minister is not to facilitate growth in the State or to grant human rights which the people of a democratic Nation rightly deserve, CorCom alleged that Central leaders visiting Manipur from time to time to continue its conquest of the State is nothing new.

The Prime Minister is only eyeing to garner maximum votes for his party in the ensuing State Assembly election, CorCom claimed and alleged that the Assembly election is the only smokescreen for India to depict the country as a democratic Nation to the international community.

India also occupies a large space at the United Nations through this deception, it claimed.

Maintaining that the Union bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir which has its own Constitution recently while Manipur was allegedly annexed by defying all international laws, CorCom claimed that India doesn't recognise nor respect the idea of self determination too.

Stating that AFSPA-1958 has been imposed in all of the WESEA region other than Tripura and Meghalaya, CorCom added that Indian security forces have killed many cadres of different groups and also the civilians as they enjoy impunity under this Act.

"Extending AFSPA in Nagaland for another six months amidst strong demand for revocation of the same is a clear indication of India disregarding the genuine problem in the region," it added.

Claiming that the Union hasn't given its prosecution sanction to Indian security forces who are involved in the killing of 1528 civilians in Manipur, CorCom alleged that there is also no sign of the State pressing the Centre regarding the same.

This is another indication of the absence of civil administration in Manipur and the exercise of martial law here, though not announced formally, the committee claimed and added that all political parties seem to be using AFSPA as a tool to win elections.

"What is the rationale for deploying a large chunk of security forces to hold elections, the platform where people exercise their democratic rights," it asked and contended that people of Manipur take the election as one of the dirtiest games where corrupt activities are prevalent.

"The committee also expressed disappointment over politicians using youth and harsh measures to achieve their goals" .

The Election Commission of India planning to hold the Assembly election on time amidst the Omicron threat is a reminder that India doesn't care about the wellbeing of people here.

CorCom advised the people to stay away from election campaigns to save lives during this Covid pandemic.

It also said that the people of Manipur have no reason to support the proposed visit of the 'Hindu fanatic leader' and urged all to boycott the same.
