Rich tributes paid to Irabot

Imphal, September 01 2010: Along with paying rich tributes and organising various functions, patriotic song and recitation contests, social service camps, tree plantation, march past competitions, quiz, etc, the 114th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was observed all over the State and beyond today.

The main observance function was held under the aegis of Irabot Celebration Committee, Manipur at Mapal Kangjeibung here.

The event also marked the month-long commemorative observance organised by the Committee in different parts of the State.

Delivering the key note address of the function, veteran communist and Health & Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat observed that it has become imperative to discuss and understand the message of Irabot and his works by the present generation over and over again.

None of the present leaders who are supposedly working for the welfare of the people do not even possess a single quality that Irabot had, he added.

Parijat further said that Irabot was an indisputable public leader who stood firmly for the rights of the poor and farmers.

He strongly opposed the autocratic rule of the king of that time and worked for social reformation.

Before commencement of the main function, a lifesize portrait of Irabot was taken out in a procession from Irabot Bhavan.

On arrival at Mapal Kangjeibung, the public offered floral tributes to the late leader.

76 contingents coming from different parts of the State also participated in a march past competition saluted at the portrait of Irabot.

Chairman of MSC/CPI Control Commission M Ibohal Singh, MSC/CPI State secretary L Iboyaima, president of Senior Citizen for Society N Binoy Singh, chairman of MANIDCO N Mangi Singh, editor of Khollao Thakhai B Sharma and president of All Manipur Nupi Marup Y Ibeni attended the function as presidium members.

Towards the end of the function, prizes were distributed among the winners of the various competitions held during the month-long observance as well as to the winners of today's march pass competition.

Irabot Mapok Kumon Celebration Committee observed the 114th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot at MDU Hall here with MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang as chief guest.

At the occasion, Lok Sabha MP and National treasurer of All India Kisan Sabha Noorul Huda and Prof Nongmaithem Tombi presented papers on the life and work of Irabot.

At Pishum Oinam Leikai, the birth place of Irabot, the observance function was organised under the aegis of Jananeta Hijam Irabot Memorial Charity Trust.

Education Minister L Jayantakumar attended the function as chief guest and the led the people in offering floral tributes to the statue of Irabot.

In Sotun (Somthar) village of Ukhrul district, the village authority organised the observance function with general secretary of Centre for Manipur Foundation L Suvash as chief guest, chief of Sotun village P Thanmei as president and chief of Ringpang village S Yarteo as guest of honour.

In Churachandpur district, the observance was organised by Churachandpur United Club Organisation at Tuiboung Forest Gate.

Presided over by president of the organisation S Kulla Mangang, the function was attended by secretary of Golpang Area Development Committee Letkhonai Guite and president of Ladies' Development Organisation Y Anandi as special guests.

Similar observance functions were also reportedly held in other parts of the district like Henglep, Singhat, Saikot, Thanglon, Sangaikot, Khemujam, Dijang Khunou, etc.

The birth anniversary of Irabot was also observed in various schools of Sagang area like Good Shepherd English School, Sagang High School and Standard English School as well as at E Paul English School of Wangoo, Turingphaisen Junior High School, Phanjabati High School, Convent English School, etc.

At Kha-Aimol village, Loktak Project, the birth anniversary of Irabot was observed under the aegis of Aimol Village Development Committee (AVDC), Manipur.

Village headman Khoisir Aimol and AVDC chairman Awar Aimol were respectively chief guest and guest of honour of the observance function.

Apart from organising singing and recitation contest and presentation of prizes to the winners, cultural programmes were performed at the occasion.

Today's observance function was in continuation of the formal commemorative event inaugurated at the office of Churachandpur United Clubs' Organisation on September 6 .

During the course of the commemorative observance, the organisation joined hands with various other social organisations in conducting tree plantation campaign, social service and discussion session on Irabot and his work at various Aimol villages.

The social organisations are Aimol Khullen Youth Organisation (Chandel district), Kha-Aimol Youth Club (Churachandpur district), Unapal Sporting Association (Chandel district), Aimol Satu Youth Sporting and Cultural Organisation (Chandel district), United Kumbirei Pioneer Club (Chandel district), Aimol Chingnunghut Sporting Association (Chandel district), Aimol Khodamphai Youth Youth Club (Chandel district), Ngairong Youth Club (Chandel district), Chandonpokpi Youth Club (Chandel district), Austere Sporting & Cultural Organisation, Tampak (ASCOT) Chandel district, Aimol Khunyai United Sporting Association, Chandel, Khudengthabi Youth Club (Chandel district), Louchulbung Youth Club (Churachandpur district) and Tuikhang Youth Club (Senepati district) .

Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress observed the birth anniversary of Irabot at its Palace Compound head office and paid floral tributes to the departed leaders.

The function was attended by RK Dorendra Singh as chief guest, M Tombi Singh as president and K Tomba and Lien Gangte as guests of honour.

Observing the birth anniversary of Irabot at its Kongpal Khurai ground, the Industrious Students' Association organising competitions on singing patriotic songs and recitation on patriotic theme.

The event was attended by secretary of AMUCO Ph Devan Sharma as chief guest.

Pradhan of Khurai Khaidem Leikai GP L Moirangleima, Pradhan of Naoriya GP Toijam Dember and Hijam Ibenu Leima were also present at the occasion.

In the singing competition, Jina Khumanthem, Senjam Somi and H Lanchingpurel won the first, second and third prizes respectively while in the recitation contest, Heirangkhongjam Anamika Devi, Huidrom Bidhya Chanu and Huidrom Daina Chanu won the first, second and third positions respectively.

Arapti Mayai Leikai Social Club, Youth and Environmental Welfare Association (Arapti), Arapti Mamang Leikai Youth Club and Development Committee, Arapti ; Joint Hockey Association (Tentha Khongbal, Wangjing) and Naorem Awang Rising Club (Naorem, Nambol) organised social service camps in their respective jurisdiction to commemorate the birth anniversary of Irabot.

North Eastern United Clubs' Organisation (NEUCO) joined hands with other local clubs/organisations like PHALYDA, YDC, EUC, UYPA, YMC, TSC, etc in organising social service camp, tree plantation drive, patriotic song competition and quiz in commemoration of 118th birth anniversary of Irabot.

Manipuri Sahitya Parishad; Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur; Nongmaiching Irabot Celebration Committee; Singjamei to Lilong United Clubs' Organisation (SLUCO); Social Cultural Education and Sports Development Organisation (SCEASDO) also observed the birth anniversary of Irabot at its Singjamei Mayangbam Leikai ground.

Prizes were presented to the winners of various competition held during the Irabot month observance at the occasion.

At Moreh, the 114th birth anniversary of Irabot was observed under the joint aegis of Meitei Council, Moreh (MCM) and All Community Development Organisation, Moreh at Ima Kondong Lairembi ground.

SDC Moreh Ph Ibohal and Addl SP, Moreh Y Ashokumar Singh attended the observance chief guest and president respectively.

MCM president N Pulindro Singh, president of All Community Development Organisation (Moreh) RK Sanayaima; general secretary of Tamil Sangam (Moreh) Rabichandra; president of Manipuri Muslim Council (Moreh) Md Hussain; president of Kha-Ngongpok Apunba Nupi Lup (Moreh) Kh Keina Leima, general secretary of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup (Moreh) M Asharani Devi, president of Muslim Women Development Association (Moreh) Jubeda Begum, president of Kuki Students' Organisation (Moreh Block) Seithong Haokip, president of All Manipur Students' Union Chandel District Committee (Moreh) K Manju and W Ibohal Singh of NYK Chandel were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.

At Jiribam, the birth anniversary of Irabot was organised by Jananeta Irabot Memorial Trust (JIMET) with ADC Jiribam Y Iboyaima as chief guest, JIMET president Chandan Kamal as functional president and chairman of Community on Culture for Peace and Integrity, Cachar, Assam S Komlakanta as guest of honour.

March past parade by school contingents and cultural dances of various communities marked the occasion which also saw offering of rich floral tributes to the statue of Irabot.

At Delhi, the observance was organised by Irabot Day Observation Committee, Delhi at Art Faculty, University of Delhi.

Observance of two minutes silence in honour of Comrade Irabot, recitation of poems written by Irabot, singing of songs focusing on the contemporary democratic questions, presentation of speeches by delegates and discussion on the issues raised were some of the main highlights of the event.

The function was presided over by Malem Ningthouja with Comrade Vijay Singh (RD), Comrade Ritupan (DSU), Md Hefajuddin (MSAD) and Comrade Hari Prasad (AINUF) sharing the dais.

Representatives of All India Nepalese United Front, All India Students' Association, Campaign for Peace & Democracy (Manipur), Democratic Students' Union, Janpaksh, MSAD and Revolutionary Democratic Front were also present at the occasion.

A souvenir focusing on the profile and works of Irabot was also released and circulated widely to mark the birth anniversary of the pioneering leader, according to a statement of the Observation Committee.

In Bangladesh, the birth anniversary of Irabot was held under the aegis of Integrated Manipuri Association (IMA), Bangladesh.

Social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima and president of IMA Thongam Dhiren were respectively chief guest and president of the function which was also attended by president of Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sansak AK Seram and Th Basanta as guests of honour.

Thounaojam Iboyaima, Bangladeshi Meitei poets and other experts spoke at the occasion.
