Opposition parties petition PM

Imphal, August 24 2013 : Taking serious note of Myanmar military attempting to set up a platoon base camp at Hollenphai near Moreh, Janata Dal (United) said a joint memorandum of non-Congress political organisations has been submitted to the Prime Minister Dr Man-mohan Singh for immediate intervention on the matter.

Speaking to newspersons at its Babupara office today, JD (U) Manipur state president Moirangthem Tombi said representatives of various opposition political parties atten- ded a meeting convened on August 12 at the MPP office soon after newspaper reports on the indo-Myanmar border fencing dispute.

Confiding that the meeting adopted a number of resolutions after minute discussion on the rage arising out of the border fencing row followed by intimation to the Prime Minister on August 22 in the form of a memorandum, he said copies of the same handed over to the Union Home Minister, Defence Minister and national level leaders of various political organisations, including the BJP and JD (U) .

Further informing that a joint delegation had left for New Delhi on August 17 to meet the national leaders and apprise them on the development in the border area, Tombi said in a telephonic conversation the Union Home Minister was urged to take relevant measures for maintaining status quo on Manipur's territory as well as convey concern of the people to his Myanmar counterpart.

The opposition parties also proposed to the central leaders for re-surveying manipur sector of the Indo-myanmar border by including representatives of border area villages, the State JD (U) chief said and dismissing as misleading information that the Government of Manipur has raised the border dispute issue to the Central Government.

As the State Government is yet to initiate concrete action on the matter any undesired consequences arising out of the issue should be the responsibility of the Central and State Governments, he cautioned.

Tombi also suggested that complaint boxes be put up at public places to understand plight of the public on importance issues as well as entertain their suggestions.

Alleging all-round failure of the Congress Government in the State, he said streets of the seven assembly constituencies within the capital city are in highly deplorable conditions while the people continue to endure severe inconveniences owing to the Government's failure to check price rise of essential commodities.
