Imphal, August 17 2014:
Denouncing the decision of the Manipur University Academic Council to defer implementation of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012 to 2015-16 academic session, ATSUM led by Emboi Serto has asserted that tribal people would never compromise on the issue.
"If MU authority is scared of some sections for their violent acts in MU campus, then we are also ready to do the same", said a press release issued by Emboi Serto.
MU will have to see if it has to compromise and change the Act which was passed by the Parliament.
Manipur is the only State which can twist any Government orders and Acts, it remarked.
ATSUM would approach the Government of India on the issue and at the same time would launch agitation if the MU authority opts to go ahead with the decision of its Academic Council.
It also asked as to why the MU authority opted for Guest Lecturers instead of appointing seven Assistant Professors in the Department of Teacher's Education.
In this recruitment, the MU authority would say that since it is for Guest Lecturers, there can be no reservation policy, it added.
