Imphal, September 16 2020:
The Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) has drawn the attention of the State Government to the alleged fake or substandard hand sanitizers being being sold in almost every shop in the State.
Fake or substandard hand sanitizer products made by unknown companies, enterprises and factories are flooding the shops in the State.
These products are available almost everywhere at local shops, hotels, clothing shops, motor spare part shops, photo copy shops, stationery shops and even pan shops.
It is turning into a business for easy profit making, said AIMS in a statement.
Making the hand sanitizers available abundantly is a good thing however substandard or fake products can cause long-term health problems, it further said.
This item used to be sold only in pharmacies in the pre-COVID-19 time and it is better to let only pharmacies sell them to check quality control.
Other businessmen who deal in food items or clothing businesses should stop transporting hand sanitizer products, AIMS said.
AIMS will conduct checking of the quality of the hand sanitizer products sold in the markets by taking it to the laboratories.
If any substandard or fake products are found, a complaint will be filed with the competent authority, it said.
AIMS appealed to the Government to assign a laboratory in the State at the earliest to check these fake products.
AIMS also informed the people to approach their office if any substandard or fake hand sanitizer products are found.
AIMS will conduct a special drive to check these fake products, it added.
