Imphal, November 08 2009:
A day after the SPF Legislature Party has decided to put in necessary security measures to ensure normal conduct of classes in schools and colleges from tomorrow, Education Minister L Jayantakumar who arrived from New Delhi today, has appealed to the students to attend classes from tomorrow and to the parents to send their children to the schools and colleges.
Talking to mediapersons at his Babupara quarters soon after his arrival from the National capital, the Education Minister observed that the protracted class boycott agitation of the three student bodies over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident has given serious impact on the education of the students in the State.
This is likely to cause a serious problem in the appearance of the students in examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur and Board of Secondary Education, Manipur as they could not attain the require percentage in attendance.
So in the interest of the students who are the future pillars of the society, the three agitating student bodies should relax their stand and allow students to attend their normal classes from tomorrow, the Minister appealed, adding that the students should also start attending classes in schools and colleges from tomorrow.
In response to a question raised by mediapersons, the Minister assured that necessary legal assistance would be provided from the side of the Government to ensure no disturbance is caused in the smooth conduct of normal classes in schools and colleges.
Apart from intensifying patrolling of security personnel, Village Defence Force would be deployed in and around schools and colleges round the clock.
He further observed that when efforts are being made to ensure quality education to students from a paradigm shift of right to life of the fundamental rights to the right to quality life, boycott of classes in educational institutions and deprivation of education to the students would be an irreparable loss to the State and its people.
So all of us should understand the instructions given in the Rights to Education Act and join hands toward ensuring implementation of these instructions, the Minister noted.
