Imphal, July 06:
The United Committee, Manipur, the joint body of the AMUCO, AMSU, AMKIL, NIPCO, IPSA and UPF has appealed to the people of Manipur, both men and women, to stage massive sit-in protests tomorrow at public places especially along the main roads from 8 am till 4 pm.
It also appealed to the government employees to join in the sit-in protests.
It further appealed to the protestors to fly black flags at their protest sites and to ensure that no vehicular traffic plies on the road tomorrow.
The UCM also appealed to the public to conduct their protests in a democratic and nonviolent manner, stating that those committing violence were acting against the interests of the movement.
The UCM, while strongly condemning the excesses committed last night by the security personnel causing death of a woman and injury of many others, also expressed deep grief at the death of a woman rallyist from Kwakeithel, Laishram ongbi Tamphasana Devi, 48, during last night's protest march.
It also expressed profound gratitude to those who participated in last night's protest march.
At the same time, the UCM also expressed much appreciation for those eminent personalities who declared that the prestigious awards conferred upon them by the government of India will be returned if the government does not withdraw the cease-fire from Manipur, and for the Manipur Olympic Association which declared that it will boycott the forthcoming National Games if the cease-fire is not withdrawn.
The UCM, on the other hand, strongly came down on the Governor, Ved Marwah, for his alleged divide and rule policy and a devious scheme to ignite communal conflict in the state.
