Imphal, June 06 2016:
Demanding release of their five colleagues arrested by police, volunteers of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) forced non-local shopkeepers of Paona Keithel to pull down their shutters this afternoon.
Starting from near Kakhulong, the KSA volunteers marched north and asked all non-local shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
As they reached the lane located just north to Pratap Talkies, the students started scattering goods/articles sold and displayed at the shops run by non-local people until they reached Masjid Road.
Subsequently, all the shops of Paona Keithel downed their shutters.
However, the shops of Paona International Market were not affected.

Notably, the KSA earlier announced that trading activities of non-local people would be prohibited until their five colleagues arrested by police are released and due investigation is initiated against two non-local traders who were found adulterating common salt.
Civil society organisations have set a deadline on June 9 for the Government to release the five KSA activists.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by KSA informed that their deputy secretary Thiyam Johnson was pulled up by police soon after their drive at Paona Keithel.
Demanding immediate release of the deputy secretary and five other activists arrested earlier without any condition, the KSA said that they would intensify their agitation if the six student activists are not released apart from imposing restrictions on non-local people.
