Teachers' eligibility test scheduled in Jul-Aug

Imphal, July 01 2011: Education Minister DD Thaisii has reiterated that as a part of the State Government's endeavour to promote quality education, teachers' eligibility test would be conducted in the months of July and August this year.

speaking as the chief guest at a prize distribution function of hill district students at Manipur Press Club here today, the Minister said under a specific guideline of the Central Government for improvement of the education system in Manipur the teachers' eligibility test is being planned.

Informing that the test is inevitable as there is need for reformation of the education system, Thaisii also asserted that the recent recruitment of teachers under RAMSA project was carried out in a transparent manner.

Maintaining that about 13,000 candidates had appeared in the recent recruitment exercise for a total post of 536, he further said that enrolment of the teachers would be solely based on the candidates' academic record and performance in the said test.

The Minister further informed that individual candidates may file complaint with regard to the teachers' recruitment process within July 4 .

Conceding that infrastructure development is the most important criteria for promotion of quality education in the State, he also expressed strong resentment that in the hill districts absence of vigilance by the local populace had led to gradual decadence of various schools after some years of establishment.

In all 15 students from five hill districts who excelled in the HSLC 2011 examination were honoured with the presentation of Nongthombam Thoithoi alias Bungcha Memorial Meritorious Award.

Three students each from Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur districts, who achieved top three highest marks in their respective district in the HSLC 2011 examination were awarded Rs 5000, Rs 4000 and Rs 3000 each.

The prize distribution programme was organised by Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) and was also attended by MPCC president Gaikhangam, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union president A Mobi, former Minister RV Minthing, Nongthombam Shamu and senior journalist K Modhumangol.

ICHAM's endeavour to encourage hill district students and highlight absence of educational infrastructure in remote hill areas were applauded by various speakers.
