AR observes World Tribal Day

Assam Rifles observed World Tribal Day on Saturday at Tamenglong town with the commemorative events also organised by various company operating bases (COB) across the state through conduct of colourful and energetic tribal dance presentation showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state's tribal communities.
The Tamenglong event had various tribes of the state, including Rongmei, Liangmai and Zeme, presenting their traditional dances in an atmosphere filled with music, rhythm, and pride.
The event was aimed at promoting unity, preserve indigenous traditions, and provide platform for the younger generation to connect with their cultural roots.
Dancers adorned in vibrant ethnic attire performed to traditional tunes, captivating the audience with their grace and energy.
The event concluded with felicitation of the participants to encourage their dedication towards cultural preservation.
Assam Rifles also organised an awareness lecture on the occasion of World Tribal Day at Satudai village in Noney district, on Sunday.
Celebrated globally as the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, the day is recognised by the United Nations to honour indigenous communities, safeguard their rights, and preserve their unique cultural identities.
The event aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and contributions of tribal communities while promoting awareness about their rights, social welfare schemes, and opportunities for sustainable development.
Special emphasis was placed on preserving indigenous languages and traditional knowledge systems, as well as ensuring the participation of tribal-youth in nation-building.
A total of 66 villagers, including 35 men, 22 women, and 9 children, attended the event.
