Imphal, February 10 2022:
Meetei Christian Churches Council, Manipur (MCCCM) has commended the Election Commission of India for rescheduling the polling date by considering the demands of Christian voters in the state.
In a release, MCCCM said that the polling date for the first phase previously falls on February 27, which is on Sunday.
But an order issued by ECI secretary Sanjiv Kumar Prashad on Thursday has rescheduled the polling date to February 28, which is Monday.
Such decision shows that India is a democratic country and ECI hears the voice of the people, it continued, while adding that the decision of ECI is because of the peaceful protest led by Christian Action Committee.
The release further lauded Christian organisations in the state, churches and ATSUM for their support to the cause.
It also appealed to voters to cast their votes to candidates of their own choice peacefully.
