Assam Rifles honours braveheart

Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Sehlon in Chandel district on Monday in honour of rifleman Ram Bhadur Pun, who made the ultimate sacrifice displaying unwavering courage and dedication to duty despite facing overwhelming odds in a counter insurgency operation in Aizawl, Mizoram on March 3, 1966.Informing this, a press release issued by PRO, IGAR (S) said that MNF insurgents attacked Aizawl jail to set free MNF prisoners and seized control of the jail.
A team of Assam Rifles was sent forward to regain control of the jail from the MNF insurgents which was-fired upon heavily by the insurgents.
Rifleman Ram Bahadur Pun got injured while administering first-aid to injured soldiers and fell in the line of duty.
He made the supreme sacrifice while saving the lives of others on that day displaying the highest standard of camaraderie and courage.
The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying by senior Assam Rifles officials.
A total of 100 personnel from Assam Rifles paid tribute by laying wreaths, the release added.
