NRFM calls general strike on Aug 15

Imphal, August 10 2025: While appealing people not to join any events relating to India's 78th Independence Day celebration on August 15, the armed National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) imposed general strike on the day from 5 am till 4 pm .

The general strike, however, will not cover movement relating to healthcare, religious ceremonies, emergency and media, an NRFM statement issued by information & publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei informed, while cautioning the people not defy the general strike call.

According to the NRFM statement, that India forcibly arid tacitly merged Manipur into the Indian Union, a fact exemplified with the suffering the people of Manipur have endured as a victim of India and the continued efforts to uproot Manipur and the society since the past 76 years.

The chaotic situation prevailing in Manipur since May, 2023 is one of the strategies India applied to crush and uproot Manipur and its society, the statement said.
