World Environmental Health Day commemorated

Assam Rifles on Thursday organised a series of events aimed at raising awareness about environmental health, climate change mitigation and foster a cleaner, greener environment across the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Chandel to commemorate World Environmental Health Day.
According to PRO IGAR (S), in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts, Assam Rifles conducted lectures on the significance of tree plantation and cleanliness, along with environmental health awareness sessions.
The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local communities at Mantripukhri and company operating bases Lilong, Thoubal, Singjamei and Chandrakong, also conducted tree plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns with active participation of volunteers and local residents, emphasising the importance of collective action to improve environmental sustainability.
Simultaneously, in Chandel district, Assam Rifles battalions conducted different events at Sehlon, Old Samtal, New Samtal, Tuitong, Kovang, Phoilen, Kachinbung and Aibol Joupi villages.
The activities included cleanliness drives, environmental and health lectures, awareness rallies, cultural performances and school engagement programs such as painting competitions.
Approximately 750 locals, including children, took part in these events, which also featured a medical check-up for the villagers, the PRO conveyed.
Informing that as part of the tree plantation initiative, an impressive number of 1,500 saplings were planted across Chandel, while a similar number of saplings were planted in Imphal and Thoubal districts during tree planting events conducted at multiple locations, the PRO maintained that the day symbolised a collective commitment to combat climate change and promote environmental conservation, reaffirming Assam Rifles' dedication to working alongside local communities in creating a sustainable future.
