TKF observes '72nd Van Mahotsav' by planting trees

Senapati, July 10 2021: The Tribal Knowledge Foundation, an NGO operating in Senapati district, Manipur successfully organized the 72nd Van Mahotsav Celebration, 2021 from July 1 to 7 .

The celebration is commonly known as 'Tree Planting Festival'.

The significance of the celebration was planting trees and spreading awareness about the forest and environmental issues.

Unlike past years, the week-long celebration was observed in different blocks and villages of Senapati district by the Forest Department, NGOs, civil societies, educational institutions, etc.

The Tribal Knowledge Foundation organized the event at Laii Circle villages, Saranamai, Saranamai Khaikho, and Koide villages.

The celebration was concluded with immense help and support from D John Sha, Senapati District Forest Division (DFO), Benjamin Ziipao, Range Officer, Liyai Range, and staff from the concerned department, civil societies, youth and student bodies, village chairman and secretary.

A total of 2,700 tree saplings were procured from Tadubi, Mao Gate, and Shajouba Range Office and planted in the targeted villages.

The first day of the event was organized on July 3 at Saranamai and Saranamai Khaikho village;the second day of the event on July 5 at Koide village and the third & fourth day of the event on July 6 and 7 at Laii village, Chingmai Khullen and Chingmai Khunou.

The event was participated by representatives and members of various NGOs including Saranamai Youth and Students' Union (SYSU), Koide Youth and Students' Organization (KYSO), ATSUM, social workers, youth and students.

Massive tree plantation was held in the village compounds, roads, and deserted forest lands.

During the event, awareness on the issues of deforestation and environment protection were also given to the youths and villagers.

The Tribal Knowledge Foundation appealed to the concerned Forest and Environment Department, Ministers, environmentalists, social leaders, civil societies, youth & student bodies, and the general public to support their 'visionary move' and future activities to protect the forests, wildlife and environment.

The Tribal Knowledge Foundation further extended their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who have selflessly helped and supported them in different ways.
