Imphal, May 21 2024:
A team of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) led by its chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar visited JNIMS hospital on Monday to assess the health condition of two children namely Chihangam Chahongnao (11), son of Leishipem Chahongnao and Sokhanwung Wangwa (11), son of Y Solem of L Phungthar village in Ukhrul district, who are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
A release by the Commission informed that the two children are the last survivors of a tragic vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday, which killed altogether four people including three children and one adult (driver).
Two children who died in the accident were siblings.
Urging JNIMS hospital medical superintendent to provide all possible help to the two children survivors, MCPCPR also proposed for creation of a child friendly space in hospital premises where the children's patient party could take rest and lactating mother breastfeed their babies during their stay at the Hospital.
Considering the nature and cause of the Ukhrul accident, MCPCR strongly recommended declaring the accident as a "disaster" as it was caused due to thick foggy/cloudy condition resulting in sudden invisibility.
It also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
