High Court dismisses petition against Chingkham villagers

Imphal, May 12 2022: The High Court of Manipur dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in connection with Preservation and Protection of the Village Common Land/State Khas Land to prevent encroachment by Chingkham Kabui villagers.

A division bench of the high court comprising chief justice Sanjay Kumar and justice Lanusungkum Jamir heard the petition filed by one Md Aslam Khan on May 9 but the court observed numerous errors while filing the PIL.

Though petitioner's counsel Md Azmal Hussain sought more time for rectifying the errors, the court denied the prayer on the ground that enough time had been given earlier.

The court then dismissed the petition but informed the petitioner to file the same afresh with strict adherence to relevant norms of filing PIL.
