Imphal, October 12 2021: In another incident of pre-poll violence workers of two intending candidates clashed that resulted in damages caused to household properties and vehicles in Lamlai assembly constituency on Tuesday.

According to a police report, workers of former MLA Ksh Biren tried to hold an election meeting at Lamlai Awang Leikai, which is the locality of another intending candidate Deben.

As the meeting commenced around 1.20 pm, workers of Deben objected to the meeting stating such a gathering of other candidates cannot be allowed in the locality.

They then proceeded to break down the meeting under the charge that it was being held despite the ban.

As a result, two groups of workers got into a scuffle followed by stone pelting.

The chaos resulted in damages of a K10 Van, Beat car, Maruti 800, three Honda Activa scooters and also the house of one Itocha.

On receiving report of the clash, a team of Lamlai police station rushed to the scene and took the crowd under control.

The PS has registered an FIR based on a report filed by president of BJP Lamlai Mandal in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, condemning the locals of Yambem particularly one Lourembam Sanjoy and others who banned Andro ex-MLA Th Shyamkumar from entering Yambem; the locals of Angtha have demanded for withdrawing the ban within 3 days, failing which Angtha denizens will follow suit and ban all activities of Yambem.

In a joint press meet of Meira Paibi, youth and representatives of All Angtha Election Campaign Committee held at Angtha Khongnangkhong community hall on Tuesday afternoon, Committee general secretary L Sanahanba and All Angtha Meira Paibi secretary K Jamini Devi said that it is unfortunate to see inhumane behaviour of blocking someone from entering their home and preventing Th Shyamkumar from holding election meetings while also boycotting the ex-MLA.

Demanding Lourembam Sanjoy and his group to withdraw their stand within 3 days, both secretaries cautioned of taking up a similar action against Sanjoy in Angtha, which is the home polling station of Th Shyamkumar.

Meanwhile, locals of Yairpok Tulihal, Andro AC have demanded the immediate arrest of Sarungbam Bimolchand, the 'right hand' of ex-MLA Th Shyamkumar, alleging his direct involvement in opening fire on innocent public.

On Tuesday, a sit-in protest was staged demanding the immediate arrest of Bimolchand and awarding of befitting punishment.

Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, All Tulihal Election Committee for L Sanjoy Singh president Md Salam recounted that a meeting for Lourembam Sanjoy was convened at Laimang Community hall at n Yairipok Yambem around 11.30am Monday.

After the meeting concluded, a peace rally was taken out from the venue till Yairipok Ningthounai.

However, the rally was interrupted at Yambem Makha Leikai after one Sarungabam Bimol Singh fired shots at the crowd, causing injury to three people including one Md Ethemcha of Tulihal.

Such unlawful act, which is against the Constitution of India, is highly condemnable, he added.

Appreciating CM Biren's call for a peaceful election on social media platforms on Monday, the president urged the authority concerned to immediately arrest Sarungbam Bimolchand for threatening the safety of the public and award befitting punishment.

He then cautioned of launching intense agitations in case of failing to do so.

During the sit-in, the protesters held placards inscribed with the slogans "Punish Bimolchand for firing at innocent people", "Arrest Bimolchand for injuring Md Ethemcha", etc.
