Imphal, August 29:
With the stock of PDS goods depleting following landslide at Zubza near Kohima along NH-39 resulting in severe reduction in the number of vehicles transporting goods to Imphal, the State Government has written to the BRTF to allow trucks carrying PDS items along NH-53 to load up to 15 metric tonnes.
As FCI trucks loaded with 15 metric tonnes of goods cannot pass through the portion of NH-39 affected by landslide, the State Government has already decided to lift PDS goods from FCI godown located at Silchar.
However, if there is restriction not to carry more than 10 metric tonnes along NH 53, the State would be unable to bring PDS goods including rice.
This would result in acute shortage of rice in the State, said FCS Commissioner S Buddhachandra in a letter sent to the Commander of 36 BRTF located at New Kaiphundai.
In this connection, FCI Area Manager, Imphal has also been consulted in detail.
He has informed the Government to allow up to 15 metric tonnes to pass through NH-53.The same information has also been forwarded to the 36 BRTF commander.
The letter also mentioned that the State has a very low stock of rice while the stock of sugar is nil at present.
It further asked the BRTF Commander to allow FCI trucks to carry up to 15 metric tonnes of load along NH 53 as a special case.
On the other hand, the Government of Nagaland has already intimated the State Government to restrict all goods carriers plying along NH 39 not to load more than 14 metric tonnes.
