Ukhrul, January 29 2022:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) have strongly opposed the blanket imposition of Covid-19 vaccination in Ukhrul district.
Strongly reacting against the order issued by Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Ukhrul on January 19 for mandatory Covid-19 vaccination of students in the age group of 15-18 years in Ukhrul, TKS asserted that the directive is a clear defiance of the Supreme Court's and Manipur High Court's order for voluntary vaccination.
Opposing such a blanket imposition, TKS asserted that the choice to vaccinate must be one's voluntary decision.
The TNL, on the other hand, submitted a written letter to the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar, stating that mandatory imposition of Covid-19 vaccination is a violation of human rights.
The letter further mentioned that withholding various benefits to the citizens by the State machinery in connection with vaccination is against the SC and Manipur HC order and the decision to vaccinate should be voluntary as per Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
