Imphal, November 27 2021: Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam has clarified that he had drawn his license gun in self defense and he didn't use it to threaten anyone nor was it pointed towards any one.

Speaking to media at a press conference held at his residence in Lilong Chajing Mairengkhong, Karam Shyam refuted the claims made by BJP Langthabal Mandal and clarified that on the night of November 25, on receipt of information about a fighting incident at about 9:30 pm, he had rushed to the site to break off the fight before it turn violent.

However, when he reached the site, some people who were already there used derogatory remarks and started shouting at him, following which he had drawn the weapon and held it in his hands but he never pointed it at anyone, he clarified.

He further informed the media that on November 25 at around 8:30 PM, while he was at Imphal Airport to welcome BJP president JP Nadda, he was informed that Haorongbam Ibohal from Chajing Chingkhong was injured after allegedly hassled by brothers of BJP State secretary Pukhrambam Somorjit.

Immediately he had informed Imphal West SP and the concerned OC to ensure no further unwanted incidents.

His son and PRO were on the way to hospital to have Haorongbam Ibohal checked out by doctors as he was injured, but rammed to an activa which had suddenly stopped in front of their car near the gate of Pukhrambam Somorjit.

Following this, a supporter of P Somorjit snatched the key of the car and assaulted his son and PRO, he alleged.

While he was approaching the site of the incident, some people had allegedly blocked the road and started shouting derogatory remarks.

As the crowd was showing signs of turning violent, he had drawn his licensed gun for self protection, he added.

Karam Shyam told the media that three FIRs have been registered against the people involved in the incident of assaulting his son and PRO and for blocking his road and for assaulting Haorongbam Ibohal.
