Imphal, March 27, 2014: xpressing that the State unit CPI unable to propagate its principle or field its own candidate in elections demonstrates organisational weakness within the national political party, Janata Dal (United) Manipur charged the CPI of betraying the people.

Addressing newspersons at Babupara today, JD (U) State president M Tombi said the CPI's tendency to align with other political organisations at the time of elections is a clear indication that the communist party is struggling for survival in the context of the State's political scenario.

Dismissing charges levelled against the JD (U) by the CPI and its allies, Tombi said a special meeting of 13 non-Congress political parties had endorsed his appointment as the convenor along with resolving to field common candidates of the allies in both the Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies.

As central leaders of the NCP were initially opposed to the concept of being an ally to the 13-party conglomerate consensus was arrived at for fielding JD (U) candidate in the Outer seat contrary to which the CPI betrayed the political truce and decided to back NCP's nomination in the said constituency, Tombi contended while observing that the CPI's intention seems to be based on the interest of its own.

Maintaining that with the people's blessing the JD (U) candidate would emerge successful in the parliamentary election, he also clarified that threat message reportedly received by Dr M Nara, the common candidate in the Inner seat, and leaders of other aligned partners has nothing to do with the JD (U).

Tombi also assured all possible contribution of the JD (U) in tracing and identifying owner of the mobile number from where the threat messages were allegedly sent.
