Boycott in Imphal, hill districts come alive to R-Day

Imphal, January 27, 2011: The 62nd Republic Day of the country was celebrated in all the district headquarters of Manipur with all its traditional show piece such as march past, cultural shows and flag hoisting.

In Senapati district, the Republic Day function was held at the mini stadium ground located at district headquarters.

The function opened with the unfurling of the tricolour by DC Nidhi Kesharwani and was marked by march past competition participated by 13 contingents of schools, colleges and participants of other units and Depts.

At Churachandpur district headquarters, the Republic Day function was graced by DC Jacintha Lazarus as chief guest.

She received salutes given by 27 different march past contingents.

The chief guest also distributed red blankets and sport materials.

At Ukhrul district headquarters, the Republic Day celebration was graced by DC Ashokumar as chief guest.

Ashokumar opened the function by unfurling the National Flag.

The march past competition was attended by 36 different contingents.

Ngaimun Youth Club Dance troupe won first prize in the cultural troupe competition.

In Thoubal district, the Republic Day function was held at Basu ground, Khangabok with DC RK Dinesh as chief guest.

Here, 13 contingents took part in the march past competitions.

In Chandel district DC Deleep Singh graced the Republic Day celebration as chief guest.

He later distributed prizes to winners of the march past competition participated by 22 different contingents.

The DC also presented red blankets to village chiefs.

In Bishnupur district, the Republic Day celebration was held in the Bishnupur mini secretariat compound where JNV School was adjudged the best cultural troupe.

DC T Sitlhou also received salutes from 20 different contingents.

The Republic Day celebration was also observed at Jiribam in the office complex of Jiribam ADC.

ADC Jiribam S Achoubi Singh unfurled the tricolour at the occasion as chief guest.

Maj Brijesh of 22 AR graced the function as guest of honour.
