Imphal, October 24 2014 :
The State Government is set to begin the tender process for the construction of Imphal ring road with funds from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) soon.
On the other hand, the Government is also planning to construct Wangjing-Heirok-Machi-Khudengthabi road under the same bank.
With an aim to enhance trade, transport system and diplomatic relations among South East Asian and South Asian countries, the bank had agreed to construct three roads in the State under South Asia Sub-Regional Economy Corporation (SASEC) .
Imphal ring road project is one of these three projects chosen by the bank.
Ahead of the scheduled working group meeting of the Sub-Regional Body comprising of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal to be held at Kathmandu on November 4 and 5, the matter had already been discussed in a meeting of Department of Economic Affairs held on October 22 last as well.
PWD Additional Chief Secretary O Nabakishore represented the State in the said meeting.
The projects which have already been chosen by the bank include Imphal-Pallel-Moreh road, Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road and Imphal ring road.
Even as the State Government is set to start the tender process for the Imphal ring road project at the earliest, Union Ministry of Surface Transport has backed the proposal of construction of Wangjing-Heirok-Machi-Khudengthabi as an alternative route to border town Moreh.
It may be mentioned that Department of Economic Affairs had earlier excluded this project as it needed support from the Union Ministry of Surface Transport.
On the other hand, ADB had already assessed the feasibility of taking up Imphal-Pallel-Moreh road.
