EPFO wage ceiling raised to Rs 25,000

Imphal, September 23 2026: The wage ceiling for mandatory coverage under the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has been raised from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.

Speaking to media persons at EPFO Special State Office, Keishampat, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-II Majang-bou Newmei said that the Ministry of Labour issued a gazette notification on September 17, 2026 whereby the EPFO wage ceiling was enhanced from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.

He said that employees who were not enrolled in EPF and allied schemes solely because their basic salary/wages exceeded Rs 15,000 per month shall be eligible for enrolment if their monthly basic salary/wage does not exceed Rs 25,000 per month and they fulfil all other applicable eligibility conditions.

Employees enrolled in EPF will have access to Provident Fund, pension benefits under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) and insurance protection under the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme (EDLI) .

As per the new gazette notification, EPF contribution of employees will be 12 per cent of Rs 25,000 instead of 12 per cent of Rs 15,000 .

Likewise, the maximum contribution towards EPS shall be calculated at 8.33 per cent of Rs 25,000 instead of 8.33 per cent of Rs 15,000.EPFO Special State Office Enforcement Officer Ch Chitrasen Singh was also present at the press meet.
