Flash flood flattens standing crops

Flash flood triggered by an overnight heavy downpour damaged large tracts of paddy fields in Chingjaroi village in Jessami Block.
About 50 hectares of paddy fields spread over 12 different places have been substantially damaged by muds and stones carried by the flash flood.
Reportedly, paddy fields belonging to more than 70 families from different localities such as Alinroh (western side), Taropula, Kashapala, Kazankhra, Vongze, Angzadam, Ra-lianghor, Phalangshi, Tyi- khang, Rakonla, Razila and Anglopa including fishery ponds were affected by the flash flood.
Speaking to media persons, one of the affected farmers Raskan Thotmathing stated that the flash flood also inflicted partial damage to the reservoir tank which is under construction for water augmentation.

The tank is being constructed under the funding of the New Development Bank (NDB) .
He further said that at least 50 hectares of paddy fields have been destroyed by the flood.
Raskan continued that terrace paddy fields belonging to more than 70 families have been affected by the flash flood.
As per the farmer, fishes worth over Rs 3 lakh reared on the banks of Rangazak Kong and Kazankhra have also been taken away to the rivers as the two rivers swelled due to the torrential rain.
He urged the State Government to extend some sort of assistance to the aggrieved farmers.
