Imphal, April 23 2016 :
A delegation of four mothers from Churachandpur today said they want implementation of the provisions of 6th Schedule provision of the Indian Constitution in the hills areas of Manipur.
The mothers led by Nianglian asserted that they are convinced that the extension of 6th Schedule in the hills of Manipur will give protection to the tribals and their land.
Speaking at Press Club in New Delhi today, the delegation belonging to the Manipur Tribal Women's Union stated that if 6th schedule provision is extended in the hill areas, they would consider burying the nine dead bodies lying in the morgue, since September 1 last year.
Leader and convener of the delegation Nianglian said "if 6th schedule is extended it will give us some sense of relief that the lives of the nine dead bodies do not go in vain" .
Aagitation in various forms and levels had been going on and the mothers had been at the forefront, both in bringing down the violence as well as in continuing the non-violent protest ever since August 31 after passing of the three controversial Bills in the State Assembly.
The delegates lamented that the State Government has not lent any ears to the ongoing agitation.
Stating the reason for coming to New Delhi, the delegates who met several Central leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Ministers said that they came to place their hardships and grievance, even after more than seven months of ongoing agitation.
The delegates said "we are not demanding what is not possible, but our rightful claim," they said, adding, "we want that the 6th schedule provisions be extended to the hill areas like any in other tribal areas in the North-east India.
The women delegates also met several tribal youth leaders in New Delhi.
They also participated in the ongoing sit in demonstrations in Jantar Mantar led by Manipur Tribals Forum Delhi since November last year.
