MPP against temporary market shed at Thangal bazar

Imphal, January 23 2016 : Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) has registered strong opposition to the State Govt's plan to construct a temporary market shed along Thangal bazar road.

Addressing media persons at MPP office today, party president N Sovakiran said that the step taken up by the State Government to construct temporary market shed at Thangal bazar is unacceptable.

The construction will pose hazard to the lives of many people living in Thangal bazar, he added.

Questioning the motive behind the construction of the temporary market shed with such urgency along Thangal bazar road, he said that the State Government should be more focused on issues like unemployment etc.

Further, he said that it was very unfortunate that women vendors of both the Ima Keithels face serious hardship after the earthquake damaged parts of the building.

The temporary market shed can be constructed at another alternative location to accommodate the displaced vendors.

Taking strong exception to the reported comments of Deputy Chief Minister on Statehood Day celebration who said that officials and bureaucrats who failed to turn up for the State function must be punished, Sovakiran said that it is unbecoming of a leader to make such a statement.

When there is no transparency and accountability, all politicians including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and other Ministers should be made to go through the lie detector (polygraph) test, he asserted.

The January 4 earthquake which shook Manipur was more like a surgical strike to the State Government where all structures constructed by the Government sustained serious damages.

The State Government should be more focused on repairing the damaged structures, he said.

Significantly the State Government had yesterday announced that it would go ahead with the construction of the temporary market shed.

Meanwhile, Y Priyokumar, State Returning Officer of MPP said that the Annual People's Conference of the party will be held on February 2 in the office premises.

Further he said in the upcoming 2017 general election, MPP will fight to grab a number of seats in the State Assembly.

He further said that only N Sovakiran Singh has filed nomination for the post of party presidentship.
