Imphal, November 19 2024: The Meitei Alliance has written to the United Nations (UN) seeking immediate intervention to prevent terrorism and further loss of life in Manipur.

In the letter addressed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Meitei Alliance sought an independent investigation by the UN while recounting the recent atrocities committed by Kuki groups on the Meiteis targeting innocent civilians including women and children in the most barbaric manner.

The Alliance also pleaded with the UN to urge the Government of India to take immediate and decisive steps to protect civilians and dismantle terrorist networks.

Appointment of a Special Rapporteur to monitor the human rights situations in Manipur and report them to the UN Human Rights Council and to mobilise resources to ensure the safety and security of the displaced population in relief camps are the other appeals of the Alliance to the UN.

The Alliance said that three women and three children including an infant of eight months were abducted from a relief camp in Borobekra, Jiribam on November 11 by 'Kuki terrorists' and their bodies were subsequently discovered in conditions that shocked the conscience of humanity.

As per the Alliance, the Kuki terrorists smashed the head of the infant and part of it is missing while the body of the 2.5 year old boy was found with his head and arms missing.

It went on to state that the head of the eight year old girl was also found smashed and the body showed suspected signs of multiple sexual assault.

Bodies of the the three women also showed signs of suspected sexual assault, the Alliance said.

Continuing that the Kuki terrorists also burnt the relief camp where the six individuals stayed before they were abducted, the Meitei Alliance said and added that these heinous crimes demonstrate a complete disregard for human life and dignity and highlight the systematic targeting of the most vulnerable population by Kuki terrorists.

These atrocities not only constitute severe violation of international human rights laws but also amount to war crime, it added.

The Centre and the State Government failed to rescue the infant of eight months and the five other civilians despite having time to act and deployment of over 70,000 Central security personnel in Manipur, the Alliance said and maintained that this failure to protect innocent civilians underscores a lack of accountability.
